【摘要】:Thisguidecoversproceduresforquantifyingtheelementalcompositionofphasesinamicrostructure.Itincludesbothmethodsthatusestandardsaswellasstandardlessmethods,anditdiscussestheprecisionandaccuracythatonecanexpectfromthetechnique.TheguideappliestoEDSwithasolid-stateX-raydetectorusedonanSEMorEPMA.EDSisasuitabletechniqueforroutinequantitativeanalysisofelementsthatare1)heavierthanorequaltosodiuminatomicweight,2)presentintenthsofapercentorgreaterbyweight,and3)occupyingafewcubicmicrometres,ormore,ofthespecimen.Elementsofloweratomicnumberthansodiumcanbeanalyzedwitheitherultra-thin-windoworwindowlessspectrometers,generallywithlessprecisionthanispossibleforheavierelements.Traceelements,definedasx003C;1.0%,2canbeanalyzedbutwithlowerprecisioncomparedwithanalysesofelementspresentingreaterconcentration.1.1Thisguideisintendedtoassistthoseusingenergy-dispersivespectroscopy(EDS)forquantitativeanalysisofmaterialswithascanningelectronmicroscope(SEM)orelectronprobemicroanalyzer(EPMA).Itisnotintendedtosubstituteforaformalcourseofinstruction,butrathertoprovideaguidetothecapabilitiesandlimitationsofthetechniqueandtoitsuse.Foramoredetailedtreatmentofthesubject,seeGoldstein,etal.ThisguidedoesnotcoverEDSwithatransmissionelectronmicroscope(TEM).1.2Units8212;ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
